Carnival is a day of unimaginable transformations. Bright costumes, rejoicing, energetic dances and jokes. The word “carnival” is of Latin origin and can be translated as “farewell to meat” (or, in other versions, “farewell to the flesh"). Originally, this event meant saying goodbye to meat and festivities before the onset of Lent.

The most important difference between Carnival and other holidays is the abolition of all social statuses. It is as if a person gets reborn into someone else, thus allowing themselves to behave in a way that is not permitted in everyday life. The main attribute of carnival is a mask; it allows to go unrecognized and avoid punishment for someone’s misdeeds.
